Well, it was refreshing to see a familiar face as I stepped out of the airport. I'm really glad the timing worked out so that Shane could come out. I knew this would be one of the best places and timewise it was perfect. Great time catching up in that cab as we zoomed along towards our hostel. It was funny how I had already acclimated to the hustle bustle no rules traffic of the philippines and sitting in the backseat of our taxi was nothing different, but for Shane it was as if we had signed up for the crash course in the destruction derby. haha scooters and cars squeezing between each other zooming and honking everywhere. Also they drive the left in this country which always requires a double take. Well we had bargained our way down to 100,000 rupees for the taxi ride.
Oh yea haha did I mention we are now both millionaires? haha pretty cool right? 1 dollar is worth around 9400-9800. haha it's a blast trying to convert everything on the fly. should be pretty easy right? just drop four decimal points? haha yea not as easy to wrap your head around that. It took a couple days.
Anyhow, the cabi dropped us off pretty close to where the hotel was supposed to be and after about 15 minutes we had it figured. checked in and then headed out to hit the town. Little did we know we were about 30 minutes walk away from the main strip. haha. Great, oh well. We eventually made it to some happening places and enjoyed some good times over drinks and then began our way back home. The hawkers along the street are pretty terrible here, but we started feeding them back their own medicine and they eventually got the idea. haha We finally figured out that you want to counter to their initial offer somewhere between 10-20% and don't come up past 30%. They'll cave and make the sale. Lessons learned.
We eventually rode on the back of a couple of scooters back to the hostel to jump in the pool and cool off. It's extremely warm in bali and nice and humid.
The next day we met a nice australian who showed us around the town while Shane looked to buy some flip flops. Apparently Bali is the go to location for Australians on holiday. She shared all sorts of information from home as well as the inside scoop on info from bali. We headed back to the hostel and then jumped onto the computers to try and track down where to head for the day. We decided on Nusa dua, a nice beach just south of the airport and began our trek. Saw a komoda dragon and swam in the gorgeous ocean. It started to rain right as we were looking for a taxi and some random balinese offered to call a cab for use. What a nice guy. We went back and forth on the price until we agreed to 80,000 to get back to our hostel which was 20,000 less than we had made it out there for. Win. But our eyes got the better of us and we stopped off for some delicious food about 10 minutes from our place. Great way to the end the day.
Our first night in the island hotel. Pretty sweet place
Chicken feet, I don't encourage anyone to try these...
The next day we shared a cab to Tannah lot. It's the basically the most touristy famous temple in bali because it's located on a rock island just off the short. It's pretty neat
Wonderful place
Ended up staying in a small surf town, called echo beach. about 25 minutes from there for that night. We rented scooters for 24 hours for 50,000 ($5) and blasted off exploring every inch.
